New European Union (EU) legislation called the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will come into effect from Friday 25th May 2018.
What is GDPR?
GDPR is being introduced to standardise the way data is handled across the EU and will affect the way all industries and organisations look after their customers’ and other personal data.
GDPR will replace the Data Protection Act 1998 and will ensure all organisations have robust data security and privacy policies and procedures in place to protect customers’ and other personal data.
GDPR aims primarily to give control back to citizens and residents over their personal data and to simplify the regulatory environment for international business by unifying the regulation within the EU.
